Cost of Rachel IVF: Seoul

How much has this second round of IVF cost us thus far?

Each patient and couple are different and each have different needs.  Ours are at the lowest end of the IVF spectrum so please take that into consideration when looking at the numbers below.

Also, all prices are in Korean Won (to convert into USD: 13,000W = $13.00USD approximately.




Visit Number:

1. pap plus regular checkup:  242,590W (our ins. price: 144,500W)
     prescriptions: 46,000W

2. blood test: 76,210W (insurance price: 57,800W)
     prescriptions: 14,800W

3. ovary function test plus blood test: 81,400W

4. blood test, pee test, blood test again, echo cardiogram and more pre-op testing: 280,960W (our ins. price: 194,170W
    polyp removal surgery meds: 7,600W
    chest X-ray pre-op: 20,800

5. sonogram to see ovary function and ovulation + more pre-op stuff: 41,710W (our ins. price: 34,900W)

6. uterine polyp removal surgery including anesthesia: 154,000W (insurance      did not cover)
    post op medication: 1,700W

7. Post op follow up exam plus estrogen pills: 22,900W

8. hormones and other IVF medications plus exam and blood test: 484,390W and 680,390W 

9. blood test and more hormone injections before egg removal surgery: 255,100W (no insurance coverage)

10. egg removal surgery plus anesthesia and post op meds: 1,676,790W (no insurance coverage)

11. embryo transfer: 950,160W (no ins coverage)

12. freeze 2 embryos: 508,000W (no ins. coverage)

All prices in red are what we paid for each service.  We pay in cash at the time of services rendered with the exception of #10-12.  We needed to pay these either in partial payments or the next time we went after payday.  We are lucky they are a great hospital and seem to not have a problem with that.

Total cost we paid out of pocket: 

5,335,400W    OR    $5,335.40USD

This is not factoring in the cost of train tickets back and forth.  Add approximately another 500,000W for train tickets back and forth to Seoul on the KTX (fast train).  If I took the slow train each time it would be about 200,000W but usually during the week I was unable to take the slow train as I was usually needing to be back to Daejeon as soon as possible for work or a meeting so time really was important.  At least during week day appointments. 

If anyone has questions please ask.  Again, please note we are at the bottom of the IVF spectrum in terms of low dose hormones and the cost of medication.  I didn't require a high dose of meds yet we did use ICSI to fertilize the eggs so that attributed to the cost of the egg removal surgery.  Our case is specific to male infertility and ICSI helps to increase our odds.  

For comparison, our first round of IVF at Maria Fertility Hospital in Daejeon cost us: 3,038,000W.
